Storing & Displaying Your Collection

A Jian Zhan collection deserves to be seen. But display and storage require care: these are delicate, valuable objects with specific needs. Here's how to show them off without risking them.

Display Principles

Light matters. Jian Zhan glazes transform under light — especially the crystalline and yohen effects. Display pieces where natural or warm light can catch them at an angle. A subtle spotlight from above or the side brings out the metallic depth.
Respect the glaze. Use display stands that hold the cup by its unglazed foot or rim — never contact stands that touch the glossy body. For rim-holding stands, pad the contact points with soft material.
Group thoughtfully. Arrange by glaze family or by shape for a curated museum feel. Leave space between pieces — crowding invites accidental knocks.

Storage Principles

Never stack cups directly. Glaze-on-glaze contact causes micro-scratches. Use individual cloth pouches, or place a soft cloth between stacked pieces.
Control humidity. Very high humidity can encourage mold on unglazed feet; very low humidity can stress the clay. Moderate indoor conditions are ideal.
Avoid direct sunlight. Prolonged UV exposure can fade certain glaze pigments. Display in indirect light.
Keep the box. The paulownia boxes our pieces arrive in are not just presentation — they're the best long-term storage. Keep them.
